Today's devotion by First 5 really opened my eyes to the idea of obedience. Often times we want obedience to God to be convenient. We fear stepping out of our comfort zone always and hope that we can be obedient and serve God where we are right now. But the reading in Joshua 5:1-9 painted a different picture about obedience. The Israelites were now in enemy and they were now called to stop doing everything and be circumcised. God doesn't want us to conqure lands or do this and that for Him. He wants us to be set apart to Him. God doesn't promise that our obedience to Him will make sense to us. He has never said living for Him will be convenient or painless. What He does promise, though, is that He loves us, He is with us and we can trust Him. God is now and forever worthy of our obedience.
